KWP, a Gordon Village Club

KWP always has and always will be a values led village rugby club committed to promoting a safe, inclusive and community spirited environment for our members, their friends and families. The club is committed to providing great experiences that promote confidence, teamwork and leadership for our players that we often see returned back to the community in many ways on and off the rugby field.

We are proudly part of the Gordon Rugby community and have always had good coach and player participation from the club in pathway development programs including a number of KWP members playing for Gordon and above.

In preparation for the 2018 season, the club has invested heavily in a number of areas that we would like to share. We are always looking for new ideas and feedback beyond these initiatives so please get in touch if you are able to contribute in any ways.

Creating an inclusive and diverse culture

KWP is a values driven club and for us that means we are an inclusive and diverse club that welcomes any person of any ability, experience or background to try the great game of rugby. We have a fundamental philosophy that everyone gets equal playing time and opportunity on and off the field. This is a strong message passed through our coaching staff and one of the key pieces of feedback from parents on why they recommend the club to friends and family.

An example of this is the transformation over the last few years of our clubhouse into a family friendly environment that any member is welcome to use while we train. Often our club families use the clubhouse as a familiar place to feed the family (as part of our Friday Mini Dinners) and catch up with the KWP community while our mini’s train.

We hold other social events through the year such as our now infamous Jeans and Jersey nights to welcome new members to the club and those parents brave enough can also join our Limping Leo’s over 35 Squad.

Lastly, our best ideas for the development of the club come from our members so being part of the KWP community means you are part of a growing club that constantly evolves with both the wishes of our members and the very best of what the Rugby community has to offer.

Training for safety and success

KWP prides itself on a strong training philosophy led by our lead Coach and Club VP, Jason Neal. The club leverages heavily on training programs developed by the ARU and NSW Rugby that aside from taking advantage of the most effective training techniques available, has a heavy focus on correct technique ensuring our players are competitive on the field but most importantly playing in the safest way possible. As part of this KWP actively supports the Sydney Juniors stringent safety standards as player safety always comes first.

KWP coaches, managers and parent volunteers are supported through ARU endorsed training programs with full support from the club for anyone who wants to become one our volunteers irrespective of if you have a rugby background.

We only use the safest of training aids, which we have renewed for this coming year adding to the training experience.

Great Pathways and Relationships with Gordon, Waratah’s and Wallabies

As mentioned above, KWP has active engagement with the Gordon District seeing our players well represented in Rep Rugby but also strong ties and participants in the Gordon 7’s with the Girls 7’s regularly training at our home ground here at Lofberg Oval.

The club is also lucky enough to have great ties into the Waratah’s and Wallabies with player involvement with the club. This can take the shape of key players assisting at training from time to time to on field activities such as “March pasts” at Waratah’s home games.

To this end, all KWP members will also get free Waratah’s junior memberships included in your registration. Many teams will head out to games together to further build comradery in our club.

A modern club

KWP invests heavily in technology such as our revised website and use of TeamSnap to make coaches, managers and parent’s lives a bit easier. Combined with our social channels this provides a great blend of avenues for the sharing of information and enjoying your child’s rugby experience through the latest technology.

Need more rugby?

Lastly, for those who like many of our players fall in love with the game, at whatever ability, the club has a number of tournaments throughout the season for which we participate including a mid-year club trip to Coffs Harbour and an end of year Bowral trip. These trips are accessible and great experiences for players and their families to explore new experiences and meet new mates.

How do I register? Can I bring a friend?

There could not be a better time to get into Rugby… it truly is a sport for everyone.

It is even easier now with the government introducing the Active Kids program which will reduce your KWP Registration fees by $100! Further to this, if you bring a friend and they register nominating you as the person that referred them, we will give you a free hoodie! To get your free hoodie, please email registrar@kwprugby.com with your details and the person you brought to KWP.

You cannot get better than that apart from when you see them get over the line for their try!

As always, if you have any questions, please get in touch via email on either registrar@kwprugby.com or president@kwprugby.com.

We look forward to seeing you soon!!
